Episode III - The End of Star Wars?

Don't expect any more "Star Wars" flicks after "Revenge of the Sith" — George Lucas says he's done...

13 September, 2004: Talking with MTV, George Lucas confirmed that the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" will definitely be the last live-action film in the saga.

"This was never planned as a nine-episode work. The original 'Star Wars' was only three films, and that was what it was meant to be. After a lot of pondering and thought, I went back to do the back story, but that pretty much tells the story. Episode Six is the end. There isn't any more to it."

He also hinted that Episode III may be a PG-13 affair - "All the good guys die, and you know, it's pretty dark. It's pretty intense. I'm not sure this one is going to end up a PG like the others were".

The Star Wars Movies Introduction

The Star Wars Saga

Star Wars is the name of a series of science fantasy movies, a literary franchise, and a series of video games based on the ideas of filmmaker and writer George Lucas, which consist of numerous prequels, sequels, and literary adaptations. The movies revolve around the transition between the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire, as well as the Galactic Civil War which erupts between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire in an epic struggle between good and evil. The story is set "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." The phrase also appears at the opening of many Star Wars spin-offs.
The original (or, in story order, the fourth) Star Wars movie was first released in 1977, but the novelization was released a year before in 1976. The last (or in story order, the third) Star Wars film is due out in 2005. The original idea for Star Wars was conceived in the early 1970s and went through many different drafts until it became the story we know today.

The Star Wars Trilogy

Episode 4: A New Hope - Luke Skywalker, a young farmboyon Tatooine, is thrust into the struggle of the Rebel Alliance when he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has lived for years in seclusion on the desert planet. Obi-Wan begins Luke's Jedi training as Luke joins him on a daring mission to rescue the beautiful Rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of the evil Empire. Although Obi-Wan sacrifices himself in a lightsabre duel with Darth Vader, his former apprentice, Luke proves that the Force is with him by destroying the Empire's dreaded Death Star

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back - Three years later Imperial forces continue to pursue the Rebels. After the Rebellion's defeat on the ice planet Hoth, Luke journeys to the planet Dagobah to train with Jedi Master Yoda, who has lived in hiding since the fall of the Republic. In an attempt to convert Luke to the dark side, Darth Vader lures young Skywalker into a trap in the Cloud City of Bespin. In the midst of a fierce lightsaber duel with the Sith Lord, Luke faces the startling revelation that the evil Vader is in fact his father, Anakin Skywalker

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - In the epic conclusion of the saga, the Empire prepares to crush the Rebellion with a more powerful Death Star while the Rebel fleet mounts a massive attack on the space station. Luke Skywalker confronts his father Darth Vader in a final climactic duel before the evil Emperor. In the last second, Vader makes a momentous choice: he destroys the Emperor and saves his son. The Empire is finally defeated, the Sith are destroyed, and Anakin Skywalker is thus redeemed. At long last, freedom is restored to the galaxy.
